Newberg motorcyclist critically injured in crash on 99W south of Dundee

DUNDEE — A Newberg motorcyclist was injured Saturday night when his bike went off Highway 99W about a mile south of Dundee, according to Oregon State Police.

He was identified as 24-year-old Curtis M. Peterson.

Sgt. Jesse Orosco gave this account:

The motorcyclist was traveling south about 6:50 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the highway, coming to rest in a grassy area adjacent to the highway.

The biker was taken by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. He was reported in critical condition on arrival.

The motorcyclist was wearing a protective helmet. Speed and alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

OSP is continuing to investigate the crash. The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, Newberg and Dundee fire departments, in addition to the Oregon Department of Transportation, assisted at the scene.

The highway was closed for more than two hours.
