How long does the News-Register staff think that the federal emergency unemployment compensation program should exist? This article represents the Democratic viewpoint while castigating Republicans for not extending more unemployment payments and increasing the deficit.

The story says:

Republicans have expressed concern that social welfare spending is deepening an already serious deficit situation. They have also suggested that continuing to subsidize people who aren’t working limits their incentive to aggressively seek employment.

How is that only representing the Democratic viewpoint? The story expressly represents the Republican viewpoint, with no castigation evident.

Paragraph one: "Some 482 Yamhill County residents face loss of their unemployment insurance benefits Dec. 28 if Congress fails to extend the federal emergency unemployment compensation program, according to figures released by U.S. Reps. Susan Bonamici, Peter DeFazio and Earl Blumenauer, all Democrats."

Paragraph two: "Last week, Republicans once again blocked an effort by House Democrats to extend the program into the new year."

Paragraph four: "Another 29,000 Oregonians face loss of coverage over the course of the next six months if Republicans continue to block extension of benefits."

Paragraph five: “It is unconscionable that House leadership (Republicans) did not let us vote on legislation to extend unemployment benefits before adjourning for the year,”

Nice attempt at some kind of a neutral make-up in paragraph seven.

So back to the question, "How long does the News-Register staff think that the federal emergency unemployment compensation program should exist?"
