Area baseball teams take spring break lumps

MADRAS – The Class 4A Tigers fell to the Class 3A Billies on the opening day of the Madras Tournament, hosted by Madras High School.
Yamhill-Carlton (0-3) had tournament games Thursday and today. The Tigers will host Taft Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a Class 4A nonleague contest.
Gold Beach 5, Sheridan 4
EUGENE – The Spartans lost a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning and eventually lost a Class 3A nonleague game to the Bulldogs at P.K. Park in Eugene.
Boone Meyer had three hits in the contest, and Hayden Purrone had a triple and two RBI to help pace Sheridan.
The Spartans (4-2) begin Class 3A West Valley League play at Dayton on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Sheridan 13, W. Mennonite 3
LINCOLN – The Class 3A Spartans scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to distance themselves from the Class 2A Pioneers on Monday.
Cody Herron went 4-for-4 with a double and four runs scored, and Boone Meyer hit a home run for Sheridan. Matt Bushbaum, Jackson Meyer, Chad Jordan and Andrew Glynn each had two hits in the winning effort.
Blanchet Catholic 8, Dayton 4
SALEM – The Cavaliers defeated the Pirates in Class 3A nonleague play Tuesday.
A doubleheader at Class 4A Elmira scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to inclement weather.
Dayton (0-3) hosts Regis today at noon before opening Class 3A West Valley League play with a home game against Sheridan Tuesday night at 5 p.m.

Taft 12, Amity 1 (5)
LINCOLN CITY – The Class 3A Warriors dropped games against the Class 2A Boomers and the Class 4A Tigers at the Spring Break Classic in Lincoln City.
A scheduled game against Western Mennonite on Wednesday was canceled due to inclement weather.
Amity (2-3) plays Horizon Christian on Tuesday in Tualatin for its first Class 3A West Valley League contest of the season.

Burns 8, Willamina 2
BURNS – The Bulldogs lost a pair of Class 3A nonleague contests to the Wildcats and the Hilanders on Monday and Tuesday at the Burns Icebreaker.
Willamina (1-4) played Vale on Thursday in the tournament’s third day. The Bulldogs begin the Class 3A West Valley League season Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Colton.
