Policies and Standards for Comments


1) User Privileges: NewsRegister.com reserves the right to revoke users' privileges to revoke a user's privilege for any reason deemed appropriate by the News-Register Publishing Co.

2) Anonymous Comments: Anonymity is allowed, but we encourage writers to identify themselves. Users can be held liable for their Comments. Court rulings can require that identities be divulged, and law enforcement can seek information deemed important to criminal investigations. The News-Register generally will try to protect anonymity, but we do not guarantee that protection. It is a violation to post comments that identify other users who wish to remain anonymous.

3) Prohibited Language: Users may encounter viewpoints that they find objectionable. However, users are cautioned against posting abusive, disruptive, rude, inflammatory or otherwise inappropriate messages or replies, including racial, ethnic or religious slurs; offensive epithets; sexually explicit comments; defamatory or libelous statements; or exhortations to violence or other illegal acts. Users are cautioned against personal attacks, threats or ridicule. Hate speech, in any form, will not be tolerated.

4) Ongoing Agendas and Arguments: As a general rule, users should not use Comments as an ongoing and continuous platform to espouse their personal political, religious, social or philosophical agenda, to continually disparage the ideas of others, or to continually engage other users in personal debates on such agendas. There is not an absolute standard for this provision. Participants who engage in these behaviors after receiving warnings may lose rights for posting comments.

5) Complaints: The News-Register does not screen Comments in advance. If you have a complaint about another person’s conduct, please e-mail it to sbagwell@newsregister.com.

6) Copyright: Users are asked to refrain from posting any information, images, trademarks or copyrighted material without permission.

7) Advertising: Comments should not promote or bash commercial products or services. Links to commercial websites in order to advertise products and/or services are not allowed as part of User profiles or Comments.

8) Personal Information: For the safety and security of our online community, NewsRegister.com recommends against the sharing of personal information such as telephone numbers and addresses.

9) Use of Comments: Users agree that NewsRegister.com may modify, retransmit or delete any Comment at its discretion, and that Comments or portions of Comments can be reprinted by News-Register Publishing Co.

10) Liability: Users acknowledge that NewsRegister.com cannot accept liability for the actions of other participants. Under no circumstances will NewsRegister.com accept liability for lost profits, lost data or any type of damages, be they compensatory, special, incidental, indirect, consequential or punitive, claimed as a result of Comments posted by users. That applies to claims based on breach of contract, implied warranty, product liability, negligence or other legal theories, even if explicit warnings are provided in advance.
