3-Dot Ramblings
Posted: Tue, 09/15/2009 - 2:16 pm | Read 520 | Commented 4 | Emailed 0Thoughts from the digital media desk ... some may call this ramblings but I’d prefer the term “3-dot journalism” with apologies to Herb Caen.
Website upgrade complete … This website underwent an upgrade early this morning. Early reports indicate some of you were inconvenienced. We apologize for that ...
While most of the additions to the site appear on the administrative side and are invisible to readers, several new features have been added to our Marketplace online business directory. You’ll be hearing more about this in the days to come ... In the meantime, I encourage you to use Marketplace as fast and convenient way to find local businesses. You also can share your thoughts on local businesses by submitting business reviews and ratings. Take a look at www.newsregister.com/marketplace ...
… Football Scores Via Text … Last week I wrote about our Mobile Alert text messaging service and encouraged everyone to sign up for breaking news, weather forecasts, school district announcements and even high school football scores … More than 70 of you signed up for football scores and received text messages from me Friday night. Thanks to volunteer “text reporters” at each school and our own sports staff, I was receiving personal texts throughout the evening and turning them around for you as quickly as possible … We also posted the scores on this website … Not signed up yet, click here and subscribe to the free service … www.newsregister.com/mobilealerts ...
Feedback Sought … A primary goal of this Public editor blog is provide a discussion between our staff and you, the reader. My early entries drew comments from you but last week’s post received no reaction at all … Perhaps only controversy stirs you to comment. I hope not … Tell me what you like about this website. Tell me what you don’t like ... What do you think?

Well, I was mostly just trying not to be a comment hog :) As you know I love the site, appreciate the improvements and look forward to continued discussions on things controversial and otherwise.

MsTeresa,
Thanks for asking ... here are some quick responses:
- We have a page that provides a variety of ways to send us information. Unfortunately, none of the options here directly relate to asking a question. That's one reason why we created this blog. We want to provide a two-way line of communication. Questions always are welcome here.
http://www.newsregister.com/submit-information
- We don't screen messages before they are posted. Sometimes there's a delay before they appear. That's purely a technical issue.
- Publishing news from other counties? We rely on the The Associated Press to provide news from elsewhere in Oregon and we occasionally feature some of those articles. We do not have available staffing to send our reporters elsewhere. We take pride in being a local newspaper and that means covering local news first.
If anyone has a question, please email me - dshryock@newsregister.com.

I was wondering where to ask a question a while back, I never did ask it but i'm wondering if there is a place for questions or maybe under the opinion dropdown or somewhere like that there could be a place for that..if there isn't one already.,I may have overlooked it. I also noticed that the comments now go into queque for review by you before posting or is that just mine *_* and I know this is yamhill county newspaper but what about maybe some news from other county's as well..anyhow I still think this online news register is great..I wouldn't know much about YC if it weren't for this.*_* Thank You & Good luck!
