Dayton pleased with its new school facilities
The facilities will be dedicated on Tuesday, Sept. 7, the first day of school. Students will cut ribbons on the projects at 8:15 a.m. at the junior high, 8:30 a.m. at the high school gym and 9:45 a.m. at the grade school. The public is welcome.

Linfield remodeling Northup into academic space
Offices and 8,500 square feet of classrooms for the philosophy, business, economics and English departments are included in the remodel, which got under way July 6. When completed next summer, the venerable building also will hold Linfield’s writing center and the new Center for Northwest Studies.

Linfield, George Fox honored for excellence
Both McMinnville’s Linfield College and Newberg’s George Fox University have made the Princeton Review’s “Best in the West” list for 2010-11. The local schools are among 120 colleges and universities listed from the western states.

No county district meets AYP, but many individual schools do
Generally, the county’s elementary and middle schools met AYP, but its high schools did not. However, it was just the opposite in Sheridan, where the main high school and the Japanese School both met AYP, while the K-8 Faulconer-Chapman School is now under a federal plan of assistance after falling below standard multiple times.
