
For the last 10 years, Polk County has been siphoning state money intended for local schools into its public works fund and using it to maintain and improve local roads, the News-Register has learned. That forces taxpayers from around the state to make up the difference.
Yamhill County placed 18th among 33 Oregon counties on a battery of health outcomes assessed in a new state study. To the immediate north, Washington County ranked fourth. To the immediate south, Polk County was second. Farther south, Benton County ranked first.

Changes in international adoption led PLAN workers and board members to close the agency, according to Margaret Nice, executive director.
