The Willamina football team won its first-round playoff game Friday night at Coquille, beating the Red Devils 24-13 to advance to the 3A state quarterfinals.
The Bulldogs (7-3) play Friday at No. 1-ranked Dayton. The Pirates (9-0) beat Willamina 21-12 Oct. 26.
Coquille entered Friday’s game ranked lower than the Bulldogs but earned the home game based on its winning the Sunset League. Willamina finished third in the West Valley League.
PERRYDALE 76, JORDAN VALLEY 20
The Perrydale Pirates took the first step to returning to the 1A state championship game with their big win vs. visiting Jordan Valley.
The Pirates (7-2) hadn’t played since Oct. 26 when they lost to rival St. Paul, but they got right back to their high scoring ways vs. the Mustangs (8-2). Perrydale scored it’s the sixth time this season Perrydale has scored more than 60 points and third time scoring more than 70. The Pirates scored 56 points in a win early in the season vs. Siletz Valley.
Perrydale plays the winner of Triangle Lake (6-3) vs. Imbler (8-0) game, which starts at 1 p.m. today.
