Western Mennonite loses in state quarterfinals

The Glide girls soccer team defeated Western Mennonite 2-0 Saturday at West Salem High School in the quarterfinals of the 3A/2A/1A state playoffs.
The loss was the Pioneer’s first of the season and it brings Western Mennonite’s (14-1-1) season to an end. The Wildcats (13-2) scored once in the first half and one in the second.
With the win, Glide advances to the semifinals Tuesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Hosanna Christian 3, Perrydale 1
The loss Saturday in Redmond in the consolation round of the 1A state tournament was the Pirates’ second of the postseason, and their season is over. Perrydale also lost 3-1 Friday to Portland Lutheran in the quarterfinals. After tying the match with a 25-16 second set win, Hosanna Christian took the final two sets 25-17 and 26-24 for the win.
Previously, the Pirates last suffered a loss Sept. 13 vs. Casco League rival St. Paul.
BOYS SOCCER
Riverdale 1, Delphi 0
The Delphian boys soccer team lost 1-0 on penalty kicks Friday at Riverdale in the quarterfinals of the 3A/2A/1A state playoffs.
The Dragons (8-4-5) played Riverdale (14-2) to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime, and the match went to penalty kicks. The Mavericks out shot Delphian 4-1 to win the match and advance to today’s semifinals vs. Riverside.
