YAMHILL — Alcohol was a factor in a two-vehicle crash that injured two people Sunday on Highway 47 near Goodin Creek Road, north of Yamhill, according to the Oregon State Police.

Troopers gave this account of the 11:33 a.m. crash:

Gary Clark 62, of 2300 N.W. Country Lane, No. 51, Gaston, was northbound on the highway in a 1986 Nissan pickup when he approached another vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn onto Goodin Creek.

Clark braked hard, lost control of his vehicle and it went onto the paved shoulder. He over-corrected and the vehicle shot across the northbound lane and into the southbound lane, colliding with a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Shelia White-Clark, 42, of 215 N.W. Ash St., McMinnville.

Clark was transported by Life Flight helicopter to the Oregon Health and Science University and was reported in critical condition Monday. White-Clark was taken by ground ambulance to OHSU with non-life threatening injuries and has been discharged.

OSP Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor said Clark will be charged with one count each of third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, driving without a license, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person. His blood alcohol content was .21, nearly three times the presumed level of intoxication in Oregon of .08. Seat belt information was not available for either driver.

OSP was assisted by the Yamhill and Washington County sheriff's offices, Gaston Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation. The highway was closed for a period of time.
