Casey joined the sheriff's office in March 2006. Prior to that, he served as an unpaid reserve with the Newberg Police Department.
In addition to patrolling state, federal and private forest lands around the county, Casey helps lead the departments' search and rescue program. He became the first Yamhill County resident to file for any of the offices up next year.
Svenson followed by announcing his intent to file, saying it might be a couple of weeks yet before he followed through.
He joined the office as an intern in 1999. After earning his bachelor's degree, he joined on a full-time basis the following year.
Formerly a sergeant, Svenson was promoted to captain in January 2012. In that capacity, he oversees Patrol, Community Response, Narcotics (YCINT), Marine Patrol and Dog Control.
Joining them was Deputy District Attorney Ladd Wiles, who filed for a circuit court judgeship being vacated by Cal Tichenor following two six-year terms. Tichenor is slated to turn 75 next year, and the Oregon constitution forces them to step aside at that point.
Wiles earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Oregon and his law degree from Lewis and Clark College's Northwestern School of Law. He joined the staff of District Attorney Brad Berry in 2003, after tours in private practice and serving as a deputy district attorney in Southern Oregon's Coos County.
Wiles said he has taken more than 100 cases to juries, for offenses ranging from impaired driving to murder. He termed himself a longtime advocate for victims of domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse.
Candidates have until March 11 to file, but filings tend to come earlier when incumbents are stepping aside.
While he has not yet filed, McMinnville business and civic leader Stan Primozich has already announced for one of two seats incumbents are vacating on the Yamhill County Board of Commissioners.
