A former Mac High student was arrested Monday after posting threatening messages on Facebook, according to McMinnville police.

“Many of the postings referenced school shootings,” police said, and some referenced the school specifically.

Christopher Folmar, 17, of 1355 N.W. Second St., No. 35, was charged with first-degree disorderly conduct. He was released to a member of his family after being taken to the police station and served with a criminal citation to appear in Yamhill County Juvenile Court.

Police said parents and other members of the community notified them of the posts Monday. They said they worked with school officials in investigating the matter.

School and police officials issued a joint statement regarding the arrest and measures they are taking to tighten security in the wake of fatal Connecticut school and Oregon mall shootings in recent days.

The police department maintains direct radio communication with the district’s main office and each of its schools. A school resource officer and regular officers patrol campuses and check in with staff and administration frequently.

Police also assist the district with safety drills designed to teach students what to do in case of various kinds of emergencies. Officers plan for and practice their response to various hazards in schools, businesses and other venues.

Anyone with information or questions related to the Facebook case is asked to call officer Robert Harmon at 503-434-7307.
