How tragic that such a young person should die, perhaps, only perhaps, her life would have been spared if she was wearing a setbelt...PLEASE, don't take it for granted, don't take risks, just click the darn thing just in case.

No disrespect to the families of the victim, but I have a question I just don't get. I have seen a trend lately that when a person dies, the families/friends place RIP messages on online forums such as this, Facebook postings, and even put little decals on their cars that display a form of condolences.

I find this a bit awkward and frankly... disturbing.

Is there a new belief out there that the dead will log in online in the afterlife? Perhaps read the messages, and realize that they are missed? Will the dead FB while passing time in purgatory? Or maybe, just maybe, they will see your window decal you bought for $19.95 from that little truck that sits over by Davidson's from where ever the dead go, and realize you got a great buy?

It seems that the actions are done more for public attention, rather than an earnest sentiment. A disservice to the deceased for sure. What is behind this bazaar trend? Am I the only one that has noticed this and finds it repugnant? Am I the only one who sees this as a disrespect to the memory of one loved in an attempt to gain sympathy and attention from those left behind.?

Confused.

Please note, I am not talking about messages left in public forums to the victims families such as "Sorry for your loss", or "Our thoughts are with your family", I am specifically addressing those posts (and decals) that address the dead as if they will log on at any moment to respond.

True Dances, but I am curious as to what the reasoning is in posting. What is behind it. Is there an actual belief that the dead will read it/see it, or is it simply an attention sort of thing? Or something that I haven't thought of yet?
