He was described as a slender, 5-foot-5 Latino male in his 20s, clean-shaven and sporting a dragon tattoo on his left forearm. Capt. Dennis Marks of the McMinnville police gave this account of the incident:
The intruder tried to grab a member of an Amity family and a struggle ensued. After sustaining an injury to his lower left abdomen, the intruder jumped into a red or maroon 1990s SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Blazer.
The SUV was driven by a man accompanied by a woman. It sped north on Highway 99W.
The incident was reported about 1 p.m. by a third party. Amity and McMinnville police were joined by sheriff's deputies and Oregon State Police in responding.
Investigators closed Highway 99W between Rice Lane and Rosedell Avenue for about three hours before clearing the scene. Traffic was routed around.
Amity and McMinnville police said members of the family had been threatened and assaulted multiple times in recent days. They said they had already been working the case for about a week prior to the Wednesday confrontation.
Anyone with information about the case, the suspect or the suspect's whereabouts are asked to call McMinnville police detective Hugo Cerda at 503-435-5616 or Amity Police Chief Dan Brown at 503-835-8606.
