Sal Peralta and Stan Primozich of McMinnville are headed to a November runoff, after late returns showed Primozich edging past two other candidates to capture second place.

Peralta jumped out to a big lead in the five-way race and held steady through the night's returns, ending with 32.9 percent of the vote.

Earlier, it was too close to call among Primozich of McMinnville, Brett Veatch of Newberg and Bill Willis of Willamina, with David Russ of Dundee running a distant fifth.

Final but still unofficials vote counts listed 6,349 for Peralta, 4,271 for Primozich, 3,918 for Veatch, 3,756 for Willis and 967 for Russ.

Peralta said he was pleased with the result, ensuring him a spot in the general.

“First place is first place going into the runoff,” he said. “I’m thrilled.”
