Office warming planned for veterans' new space

Amid the boxes to unpack and cords to connect, Yamhill County Veteran Services Officer Jerry Wilson already has his business cards on his desk, ready to distribute. 

The county veterans’ office has moved from 707 N.E. Ford St. to 627 N.E. Evans St. It is planning to host an “office warming” from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

“Stop by, see our new location, have some refreshments and chat with our veterans’ services officer,” said Paul Partridge, the county’s Health and Human Services manager. “Jerry has already been making remarkable strides toward excellent service to the veterans of Yamhill County.”

Partridge said the move is being made to better serve military men, women and their families as well as to reduce the overhead cost at the current location. The new office is expected to be operational Wednesday, he said.

Wilson said he’s looking forward to getting settled in and back to serving county veterans.

He said he recently tallied his contacts from October and came up with this breakdown: 300 phone calls, 55 scheduled appointments, 45 walk-ins and five outreach activities. He said he had also coordinated eight housing vouchers, most of which went to homeless veterans who were also single parents.
