Newberg man charged in machete incident

NEWBERG — A Newberg man was arrested Saturday on charges alleging he threatened his roommate with a machete.
The Newberg-Dundee police identified the suspect as Noah Royce Norton, 25, of 1110 S. Pennington Drive, side B. He was charged with one count each of second-degree assault, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon.
The assault charge is a Class B felony with potential Measure 11 consequences. The weapon charge is a Class C felony and the menacing charge a Class A misdemeanor.
Norton was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $162,500 bail.

The Newberg-Dundee Dispatch Center received a call at 2:47 a.m. from a resident who reported his roommate was intoxicated and threatening another roomate with the machete.
Officers responded to the Pennington Drive residence and learned Norton had fled on foot. The victim, who was not identified, was transported by Newberg Fire Department ambulance to Providence Newberg Medical Center. He was treated for injuries to his hand and released.
Norton turned himself in about noon at the Newberg Public Safety Building and was taken into custody.
