Neighbors oppose UO golf course proposal

Nov 16, 2012

By The Associated Press

EUGENE — Neighbors of a proposed golf course for the University of Oregon are challenging a county permit for the project, concerned that turf chemicals and water use could harm the surrounding area.

Backers of the course need a planning department permit before they begin raising money for the golf course, estimated to cost up to $30 million.

The Register-Guard reports ( ) the money to buy 800 acres near Creswell and build the 18-hole course would come entirely from donors.

It would be the home course for university golf teams and would be open to alumni, staff, students and guests.

A ruling on the permit is expected by the end of December.
