You do realize that most people see at eye level, that means if you stay lower you are more than likely able to see a shoplifter, before they can actually see you.
You don't have to be aggresive and hang with people, you may not merchandise stolen, but you might not have it bought either. People don't liked being bugged and watched all the time. How you set up your store is the key to a successful business that assures privacy for customers to extent, and will stop shoplifters.
