McMinnville resident arrested on burglary charge
Dec 13, 2013
Police made an arrest Thursday in connection with a Nov. 28 incident in which a woman living in a Northeast McMinnville multi-family residence with her baby awoke to an unknown male standing by her bed touching her arm.
Capt. Dennis Marks of the McMinnville police identified him as Juan Vargas, 30, of 824 N.E. Galloway St. He was charged with one count each of first-degree burglary, a Classs A felony, and harassment, a misdemeanor. He was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $22,500 bail pending arraignment in circuit court.
At the time of the incident, the woman screamed and the suspect fled. Her baby was sleeping in a crib hear her bed. They were staying in a temporary housing facility.
Investigating officers located signs of attempted entry into the residence, some property dropped outside and some blood drops and footprints where access was gained.
Following up on information and evidence they obtained, officers served a search warrant Thursday night at the Galloway Street residence and obtained evidence that included clothing and DNA samples. Vargas was taken into custody at that time.
Police remind residents to make sure their windows and doors are locked and secure at all times to reduce the possibility of being a victim of a criminal incident.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact officer Adam Dean at 503-435-5950.
