His family contacted McMinnville police July 25 after he failed to return from a trip to sell a motorcycle. They contacted the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation.
Porter was last seen between 4 and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, near Highway 101’s intersection with North Bay Road. It’s the site of an ATV rental business lying north of Coos Bay in the community of Hauser.
Where he went from there isn’t known at this point.
“We’re just not sure,” said Sgt. Pat Downing. “We can’t track him any further.”
Porter attended McMinnville High School. Unemployed, he had been living at home, according to his father, Myron.
He received a text message from his son on July 23 that stated, “I arrived safely.” He believes the sale was completed.
“Our main goal is the safe return of Zachary,” his father said. “Beyond that, everything else is conjecture and second- and third-hand information.
“This is not like him at all. Never.”
Porter is 6 feet tall, weighs 180 pounds with an olive complexion. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark-colored shirt with wording down one side of the front.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coos County Sheriff’s Office at 541-396-2016 or McMinnville police at 503-434-7307.
