Mascot issue on agenda for Amity School Board

Seriously - With all these school's struggling for funding - to Educate our upcoming present Future - Student's - The Threat is if you dont change your MASCOTT - That deplict's an'' Honor'' to Native American's - and Give a Time line to Do it in - YOU WILL LOSE MORE FUNDING - OMG OMG - If the Tribe's want The Mascott's Changed Then EDUCATE ALL AMERICAN STUDENT"S LIKE IT IS DONE THROUGH THERE TRIBE FOR FREE - THROUGH THE OREGON EDUCATINAL STANDARD"S IN WHICH IT STATE'S - ALL STUDENT'S HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEEN EDUCATED -THROUGH THERE STANDARD'S - NOT THREATENED IF THE TRIBE WANT'S TO PUSH THERE VIEW'S ON OUR STUDENT'S THEN EDUCATE THEM ON WHAT A WARRIOR IS - WHAT A BRAVE IS-''' BE PROUD''' - SINCE THE STUDENT'S''' HONOR''' THERE MASCOT'S JUST THE WAY THEY ARE - THE COST BARRING FOR ANY OF THESE SCHOOL TO BARE IS AN INSULT - EDUCATE DONT DISCRIMINATE ON OUR HISTORY AND FOR THE''' HONOR'' THOSE NAME'S BARE - RIDICULIOUS . STOP WITH THE POWER STRUGGLE - AND STOP THE THREAT'S TO OUR STUDENT'S WHO ARE BEING EDUCATED - WITH SOOOOO MUCH LESS FUNDING .. - I CONSIDER THIS'''' BULLYING'''' - AND IN OUR SCHOOL'S THIS IS NOT ALOUD - STOP -SHAME SHAME - I AM AN OREGON TAX PAYER .. PS - FAULCOUNER/CHAPMAN - USED TO BE THE GENERAL'S AND NOW THEY ARE THE TITAN'S ??????????????? HUM - GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHAT THIS COST BARRING IS - AND HOW IT CHANGED THIS SCHOOL - HUM HUM .

All my kids went to Amity. I believe that the mascot of "Warriors" is a tribute to the Native Americans. Maybe this is ignorant. I am part Native American. I love the Native American ways. I want to stress that I think like some mascots could be offensive. Like "Squaw" or such. But I think Amity never meant it to be offensive.

I have issues with changing names of the schools mascots a lot of the schools have had such names for 50+yrs. And NOW they want them changed?? They don't have enough funds to keep teachers employed, but yet they want to spend money to change names of the school mascots? what's wrong with this picture. Some's schools don't have money for other things programs are being cut like the arts, but yet they want the mascots changed. When do we start spending money wisely? vs on things that have been a tradition for 50+yrs? Im native american an am very proud that they use such names as "Warriors" or "Braves" Wake up an put the money where it will truly do the most good. Towards our children's education an keeping the arts, an teachers employed.

I demand they also change the Dayton mascot. It unfairly caricatures white males as blood thirsty, cannon firing, plank walking brutes. It has hurt my feelings and lowered my self esteem. It's really at the root of why my life sucks.

And while I find the grizzly to be a fine mascot for Mac high, I'm sure there is a PETA person out there somewhere who is suffering because of it.

Just another example of political correctness run amock. The state board of education apparently feels making everybody feel warm and fuzzy is more important than educating and graduating our kids. No wonder homeschooling, charter schools and private schools are growing exponentially.

Seriously? A mascot is what is found to be more offensive than the fact that students grades are poor? That kids are being lost in the system? If they are going to change the mascot because it is offensive then we better be prepared for an entire county to be changed. Yamhill is the name of a tribe, Yamhill Indians. Chemeketa better get ready to change its name because its possible ties to the native American culture, not to forget about Champoeg, and Willamete. If we are changing something because it is offensive then how about we change how the kids are taught? That is offensive to me.

Its just a Mascot and if you feel offended then must really hate being Native. Or have a lack of self esteem.

I hear ya, Mack. I've yet to forgive my first Kindergarten teacher for confiscating my chalk-tipped Zorro sword and cape. It hurt my feelings and lowered my self esteem, and is really at the root of why my life seems to have sucked so much.

Yes, Yamhill County has a high number of drunks and DUII offenders, and of course we all know that Native Americans like their alcohol. Yamhill county has a huge number of addicts, and we all know that Native Americans like to smoke the peace pipe, I am sure they partake in other drugs as well. Yamhill county has quite a few domestic disturbance issues, thefts, and robberies, and of course so do Native Americans.

For anyone to assume that they personally are named after a mascot is ridiculous and as just-a-mom kindly pointed out, where does it stop? The ban on this is as ridiculous as assuming that all Native Americans partake in the above things I laid out above, but the fact is, there are these issues in Yamhill county, so as not to offend anyone, do we now change the name of the county? Chemeketa storm- so now all Native Americans are stormy, glum, grey, cold and wet? WHERE DOES IT STOP? It won't, they used to be called Indians, now it has to be Native American, they used to be able to say the pledge of allegiance, now they want to eradicate it, they used to be Warriors, now they will be forever changed and the memories of it will be forgotten as some new name takes shape.

Is there no room for traditions, are we too ignorant to understand that what was once done so long ago was not done in ill will? Are we too stupid to understand that when we allow things like this to happen it only opens our country up for worse to come?

And before someone starts yelling about my post because they only scanned it instead of READING it, let me enunciate:
