Lions’ late surge stops Grizzlies

WEST LINN – The West Linn girls basketball team outscored McMinnville 23-14 in the second half en route to a 48-38 victory in Tuesday night’s Class 6A nonleague game.
“We played one of the best teams in the state tonight,” Grizzlies coach Sean Coste said. “It was probably one of our best games overall as a team. The defense was really outstanding. Help-side defense was really good, keeping them out of the paint, not giving them any good looks.”
Nicole Long and Bethany Mohler scored nine points apiece for McMinnville (3-6) and Audrey McMillan scored seven points as the Grizzlies turned in what Coste deemed an improved offensive performance.
“We played with a lot more confidence, more discipline,” he said. “We’re playing a little stronger around the basket. A big difference is just making shots.”
Ashley Johnson led the Lions (9-2) with 14 points.
The Grizzlies host Tualatin tonight at 5:15 p.m.
