Lightning strikes reported south of Amity

Aug 12, 2014

News-Register Staff

The long-predicted lightning and thunder storm has arrived in Yamhill County, with loud thunder, rain and, south of Amity, several reports of lightning strikes.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning in Western Oregon. Tinder-dry conditions make fire a real hazard during lightning storms, NWS says.

Strong winds and hail, with stones as large as a dime, may accompany the storm, the weather service says.

The storm is expected to be at its peak most of the day, with the possibility of rain and thunder slacking off after 10 p.m. More thunder and lightning are predicted Wednesday from morning through mid-afternoon.
