Football jamborees set for tonight

One week from the official start of the high school football season, Yamhill County schools are conducting jamborees against live competition from other schools to better prepare themselves.

Three jamborees are taking place on Friday evening, featuring five area schools. Amity High School’s football team will travel to Monroe for a jamboree with the Class 2A Dragons.

McMinnville jamboree: The McMinnville junior varsity and varsity football teams will welcome Class 6A Benson (varsity) Class 5A Corvallis (junior varsity and varsity) and Class 2A Gaston (varsity) to its jamboree tonight at Wortman Stadium. Each team will receive 36 total snaps on offense and defense; there will be two scrimmages on the field at any time.

The jamboree starts at 6 p.m. The cost of admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.

Yamhill-Carlton jamboree: The Yamhill-Carlton football team will host Class 4A Tillamook, Class 4A Banks and Class 3A Dayton in scrimmages. The event begins at 5 p.m.; admission is free.

Willamina jamboree: The Bulldogs will host Class 3A Sheridan, Class 3A Gervais and Class 4A Sutherlin. Each team will have 12 offensive and 12 defensive plays.

The jamboree begins at 6 p.m.; the cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids. Pulled pork sandwiches will be sold to raise money for the Willamina football program.
