Tyler Clark rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and Darren Ashley added a touchdown of his own on the ground as Dayton improved to 5-0 overall with a 27-8 defeat over Class 3A West Valley League opponent Horizon Christian on Friday night.
The Pirates took a 6-0 lead into halftime thanks to Clark's 8-yard run on Dayton's first possession of the game. The rest of the half was played in a total downpour, and both teams struggled to move the ball offensively.
At the beginning of the second half, the rain had stopped, and again Dayton capitalized. Clark scored on consecutive possessions as the Pirates began to pull away from the Hawks (1-4 overall, 1-1 West Valley League).
Dayton (2-0 West Valley League) fumbled nine times during the game, losing three, but picked off two passes to keep Horizon Christian at bay.
