I doubt that most of the residents of McMinnville realize how fortunate they have been to have Kent Taylor on board for the past 28 years. His personal affability and professional talents are head and shoulders above many managers in similar positions. He has quietly guided the management of this growing city with a steady hand and genuine care for the community. His job was made a little easier due to the excellent leadership provided by the council, and other long-time citizens, but he has kept the city on track through growth, technological advancements, and conservative budgeting and planning. We should be so lucky to have lightning strike twice, in this regard.

Spongebob,

Kent Taylor was the second lucky lightening strike as city manager -- the first was a man you may have heard of -- Joe Dancer.

Joe Dancer was, indeed, the standard bearer. He was a local kid who went to war, and came back to became the city's first professional manager. When he retired, the League of Oregon Cities recognized him with a plaque that read, "To the Best, from all the rest." It was appropriate.

I admired Joe greatly, but when Kent stepped in, he brought the approach to professional management out of the '60s, and improved upon the model established by Joe Dancer.

You are right, Don, we should be so lucky a third time.
