LINCOLN CITY — A 15-year-old Carlton girl was injured Wednesday morning after falling from her horse while riding with friends on the beach near Lincoln City, according to the Oregon State Police.

The girl is a student at Yamhill-Carlton High School. She was reported in fair condition Friday at Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanual Hospital in Portland.

Oregon State Police gave this account of the incident based on information provided by the girl's family:

About 11:10 a.m., OSP, Lincoln City police, North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and PacWest Ambulance responded to a report of an unresponsive girl who fell from a horse in the surf at Roads End State Park.

She was riding horses with two friends and an adult female on the beach when her horse reared up and started to fall. She fell into the surf and was pinned under the horse.

One of her friends, Erin Rush, 15, saw the entire incident and quickly got off her horse. She ran to the girl, dragged her from the surf and started first aid until Erin's mother, Tracy Rush, arrived, rolled the girl onto her side and began administering first aid. The injured girl started coughing up water and breathing on her own.

Once law enforcement and medical responders arrived, she was transported by Pac West Ambulance to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital and later transferred to Randall Children's Hospital. She was initially listed in critical condition.

Each person was riding her own horse and all are reported to be experienced riders.
