Athlete's father accused of Facebook rant

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Police are investigating a Vancouver, Wash.-area father accused of a Facebook rant in which he reportedly hoped for a shooting at the nearby school of an opposing prep basketball team.

The Tuesday night post coincided with a game between Camas High School players and the Skyview High School team on which the man's son plays, The Oregonian reported.

Vancouver's Skyview beat Camas 44-42.

The 39-year-old man reportedly wrote: “Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!!!”

The original posting was deleted within hours.

Around midnight Tuesday, the same Facebook page carried a possible clarification. The newspaper said that post read: “In no way shape or form do I wish harm on any human being. Except terrorist who hurt people.”

The man has been barred from all Camas School District property, said Josh Gibson, athletic director at the Camas School District. “Our top priority lies with the safety of our students,” he said.

After the game, a parent showed Gibson the post on a phone, he told KATU-TV.

Camas police, Vancouver Public Schools and the Clark County sheriff's office are all involved, Gibson added.

Camas police confirmed they are investigating.

Clark County sheriff's Sgt. Fred Neiman said a Skyview school resource officer interviewed the father and son Wednesday to get their accounts.
