Amity husband and wife killed in crash

Sylvester Cooper, 90, died Wednesday at Salem Hospital from injuries sustained in a Tuesday afternoon crash west of Salem on Highway 22 that also claimed the life of his wife, 91-year-old Elizabeth Carolyn Cooper.

SALEM — A 91-year-old Amity woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash west of Salem on Highway 22 near Doaks Ferry Road NW.
The Oregon State Police identified her as Elizabeth Carolyn Cooper. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
OSP gave this account:
A 2003 Buick driven by the victim's husband, Sylvester Cooper, 90, of Amity, was westbound on Highway 22 in the left lane. The vehicle slowed, signaled to turn left, pulled into the eastbound lanes in the direction of the Rock-n-Rogers restaurant on the south side of the highway and was struck in the passenger side by a 2006 Dodge van traveling in the right eastbound lane.
Sylvester Cooper was transported by Salem Fire Department ambulance to Salem Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The van's driver, Jutta Wilson, 75, and passenger Marvin Wison, 79, both of Dallas, were transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.
OSP was assisted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office. An Oregon Department of Transportation crew responded
