Adamson resigns as Sheridan's mayor
Jan 6, 2014
SHERIDAN — City Manager Frank Sheridan announced at Monday night's special city council meeting that Mayor Val Adamson has resigned the position.
"I got a New Years card from him and in it he said he was resigning as the mayor," Sheridan told the council. "It was dated Jan. 2."
Adamson, the owner of Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home and Green Crest Memorial Park, and a longtime civic leader in the West Valley community, was due to serve through the end of this year.
The council could take no action, such as accepting Adamson's resignation, because the announcement came at a special meeting, according to City Attorney Walt Gowell.
A discussion of Adamson's decision and the possible selection of a new mayor will take place when the council holds its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.
Council President Harry Cooley will serve as acting mayor. He could be appointed to fill out Adamson's term at the regular meeting.
"I regret his decision," Cooley said. "He's been an excellent mayor. I'm going to miss his guidance."
Adamson did not attend the meeting and could not be reached afterward.
