A Sheridan man was listed in critical condition Tuesday at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on Highway 22 southwest of Dallas in Polk County.
The 2:15 p.m. crash occurred about 10 miles east of the Highway 18/22 junction. Oregon State Police Sgt. Bob Charpentier gave this account:
Jerry Dean Weber, 48, of Sheridan, was westbound in a Chevrolet HHR sport utility vehicle when he crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and collided head-on with an eastbound Ford Escape SUV driven by Roy Warner, 61, from Alberta, Canada.
Weber was alone and transported to Legacy Emanuel. Warner was transported to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. A passenger in his vehicle, Catherine Warner, 61, his wife, was also transported to Legacy Emanuel. They were hospitalized with critical injuries.
Occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.
The highway was completely closed for about one hour and then open to one lane until about 5:30 p.m. when both lanes were reopened after the scene was cleared and the preliminary investigation of the crash was completed.
In addition to the state police, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Dallas Fire Department and an Oregon Department of Transportation crew responded.
