A 13-year-old girl and 51-year-old woman were struck by cars in McMinnville incidents occurring a little more than 12 hours apart, one about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and the other about 6:40 Wednesday morning.
Wednesday morning's crash occurred at Northeast Baker and Second streets, next to the McMinnville Fire Station. The victim was identified as Elena Ramirez, 51, of 624 S.W. Brockwood Ave., apartment A, McMinnville.
The call went out for a Life Flight helicopter, but medical personnel were told heavy fog would prevent an immediate response. Instead, the woman was transported by ground ambulance first to the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville, then on to the Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. She was reported in good condition.
The woman was struck by a full-size 1993 Ford Bronco driven by Guillermo DeLatorre-Padilla, according to Capt. Matt Scales of the McMinnville police.
DeLatorre, whose age and address weren't immediately available, was eastbound on Second. After stopping for a red light, he proceeded north on Baker and struck the pedestrian.
"He said he felt the impact but did not see her prior to hitting her," Scales said.
Cassie Sollars of McMinnville said she saw the Bronco on Baker as she pulled into the Cornerstone Coffee drive-through. She heard the sound of the impact and looked up to see the pedestrian flying through the air.
"I ran over, and she was on the pavement, moving," Sollars said. "By that time, the EMTs were already there. They were so close."
Tuesday afternoon's crash occurred at Northeast Fourth and Johnson streets.
Scales identified the victim as Angelica Kathleen Bercier, 13, of 406 N.E. Johnson St. She was transported to Willamette Valley Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Bercier was struck by a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup driven by Brigitte Faye Hodgson, 16, of 5820 N.W. Riverside Drive, McMinnville.
Scales said Hodgson was headed north on Johnson at about 20 mph in a 25 mph zone. He said Bercier was with a group of individuals crossing Johnson outside a marked crosswalk.
Both crashes remain under investigation. No citations have been issued to date.

Last week i made a comment to my 13 year old girl that, to her, sounded mean about how easy it is to get hit by a car or whatever late in the day while it's raining and wearing an I-Pod while walking in town. Just friday as i was waiting to turn to 99w off 19th by "new to you" a green mustang ran a red light and struck a car that almost hit me broadside as i stepped heavily on the brake while rain was pouring down. General rule is people need to slow down and pay more attention through the winter months. It's always dangerous but wet weather, Fog and icy road condition hurts people. Parents do need to tell their kids to stop, look everyway and if applicable...keep the volume down on their devices so they can at least spot danger coming, Not simply focusing on crossing a street thinking the driver even sees anybody walking around or riding a bicycle. Generally they never do.
