If you love a parade, pancakes or parties in the park, you're in the right place at the right time. Yamhill County summers are filled with all those things and more as each city celebrates the season with it's own unique - and sometimes downright quirky - festival.

And in addition to the city celebrations, you'll find a host of other activities, from free outdoor concerts (see related story, Page C5) to fundraisers that put the emphasis on "fun."

Sheridan and Carlton plan their festivities - Sheridan Days and Carlton Fun Days - in June, just as the summer season is getting under way.

Then July brings a whole host of events: Willamina's Old-fashioned Fourth of July, McMinnville Jaycees Fireworks, the St. Paul Rodeo, McMinnville's Who's On Third/Turkey Rama, Yamhill Derby Days, Yamhill Lavender Festival, Amity Pancake Breakfast and tractor pulls, the Newberg Old Fashioned Festival.

The Yamhill County Fair & Rodeo begins in July and ends in August, and the rest of that month brings Carlton's Walk in the Park, the Valley View Air Show and the Grand Ronde Powwow.

Celebrations continue into September with McMinnville's second annual City Faire, Amity's ATV parade and 9/11 commemoration, Art Harvest and the Coastal Hills Art Tour.

Here's a calendar of some of the big events scheduled this summer:

• June 18-21: Sheridan Days opens the summer festival season Thursday through Sunday, June 18 to 21, with parades, booths, concerts and more. Call 503-843-7656.

On the same dates, the downtown part of the festival will have a new name, "Who's On Third," and a renewed focus on local products, businesses and service organizations. Summer in Yamhill is bright as sun and colorful as rainbow! Its autumn now and the harvest season have already begun. I’m little late here…as I can see I’ve missed most of the summer programs. In September 19 there is Art & Wine program in McMinnville. Not going to miss that one for sure!
