Police closed several Northeast McMinnville streets Tuesday after receiving a report of a man inside a residence armed with a handgun.

McMinnville Police Capt. Rob Edgell gave this account:

The Yamhill Communications Agency received a call about 5:15 p.m. from a woman who said there was a disturbance at 1110 N.E. 14th St. She wasn't able to provide many details before the call ended.

When officers arrived at the residence, a Latino male exited. He said another man inside the residence was armed with a handgun that he had pointed at him.

A safety perimeter was established, resulting in several surrounding streets being closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until about 6:45.

Attempts were made to contact individuals inside the residence, but no one was located.

The man who exited the residence was identified as Nelson Gomez Velazco, 23. He was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and also was in violation of his probation. He was lodged in the Yamhill County Jail on $15,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the incident should call McMinnville police at 503-434-7307.
