The Sheridan High School boys basketball team opened its season with a 52-44 win over Creswell on Saturday morning, thanks to a big fourth quarter. Trailing by two heading into the final frame, the Spartans — ranked ninth in the first 3A coaches poll of the season — outscored the Bulldogs 16-6 to close out the victory.
Leading the charge was Tre Hale-Edmerson’s team-high 15 points on a 64 percent effort from the floor. Niko Rentsch added 12 for Sheridan while Brock Ingram contributed nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals to go along with his two points.
“It was the first game of the year,” coach Bob Bennett said. “We have lots of things we can correct, but it was nice to play someone besides yourself. There were good things and bad things, but it was a good start for us.”
