YAMHILL — Dozens of firefighters and engines are fighting a huge blaze on Turner Creek Road near Menafee County Park. At least one structure may be involved.
Fire crews called in a fifth alarm shortly before 1 p.m. Monday, seeking more personnel to pump water onto the fire. The Oregon Department of Forestry asked for a helicopter to help with the efforts, as well.
McMinnville, Carlton, Yamhill, Newberg, Dundee, Gaston and other area fire departments already were on the scene northwest of Yamhill.
A column of black smoke was visible for miles on the clear, dry afternoon. Residents of the area were contacting firefighters with concerns about animals being affected by the smoke and flames.
Today’s temperatures are expected to be unusually high for early fall. Highs in the upper 80s were predicted.
